Immersive Encounters: The Ascendants

Awaken your senses and transform your perspective. From the creators of STRATA and OjO comes Immersive Encounter: The Ascendants.

Forget the seat. Forget the stage. This is unlike any show you’ve ever experienced.
Embark on an intimate, personal sensory-based journey designed to stir your memory.

What is IE?

Named “Best Bite-sized Theater” by Pittsburgh Magazine, Immersive Encounters (IE) are intimate, personal, sensory-based theatrical experiences. These bite-sized moments-to-remember are intentionally mysterious and radically unique. Escape the office on your lunch break or take a detour from your weekend routine. Take a journey into the unknown.

Immersive Encounters are not meant to be a comprehensive experience; they are simply short, 20-30 minute distillations of a larger idea. These mini encounters serve as a laboratory for both creators and patrons to explore a specific concept or aesthetic. We suggest you remain open and do not cling to any previous immersive experiences you may have had in the past.

Details

Encounters will take place somewhere in the Cultural District of downtown Pittsburgh. They are approximately 20-30 minutes long. Encounters are individual and personal – if you purchase tickets with another person, be prepared to be separated during the experience. This experience requires your participation and your trust. We have taken every effort to secure your safety and in turn, we ask your cooperation. The less you know about the experience the better.

Age Restrictions:
Encounters are designed for ages 16 and up. Children are not allowed.

Please note:
After booking your encounter you will be given the location and further instructions via email along with a final reminder 24 hours before your experience. It is extremely important that you follow these instructions exactly. While your safety is our utmost concern, we require that you read and sign this release during your encounter. You will be provided a copy of this release upon arrival.

The Rules of the Encounter:
1. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
2. Follow the instructions in your email for your starting location.
3. Please keep your questions to a minimum.
4. Please remain open to the experience.
5. Do not share your experience with others.

Accessibility

Bricolage’s immersive experiences are heavily rooted in the senses and often require movement. As a result, not all experiences are suitable for all patrons and we may need to make adjustments to the piece in advance to better suit an individual’s needs. We encourage you to communicate any specific accommodations that will help you better enjoy your time with us in the comments section when purchasing tickets or by calling our offices at 412-471-0999 or emailing Fred at fred@webbricolage.org.

As with birds, climb into the windy heaven, out of the oak, and in the ponds broken off from the sky your feeling sinks, as if standing on fishes. Rilke

See What Everyone Else Is Saying

  • "It was the suggestive lights, subtle tactile effects, and perfectly timed rhythm of the performers that completed the submersion into the dream-like world."

    – Christine Woods, Medium
  • "The show provides complete immersion through a combination of sensory deprivation and allusiveness that has the feeling of lucid dreaming in an exploration of one’s feelings about mortality."

    – Bill O'Driscoll, Pittsburgh City Paper
  • "...you may find that it pulls your mind temporarily out of your body, cleanses it of anxiety, fear, and stress, and leaves you, in the end, feeling mentally detoxified and existentially refreshed."

    – Wendy Arons, The Pittsburgh Tatler
