Finishing off the 7th season Midnight Radio is the Pittsburgh-flavored holiday tale, Yinz’r Scrooged. Set in present-day Pittsburgh, this family-friendly comedy is an uproarious parody of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story, A Christmas Carol. From the notorious curmudgeon, Ebenezer Scrooge, to the mischievous Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Dickens’ classic characters are not so subtly re-imagined as local Pittsburgh legions and celebrities, in this radio-style rendition of a beloved holiday staple.
Adapted by our own, Tami Dixon, Yinz’r Scrooged stars an experienced company of actors including Midnight Radio veterans, Lissa Brennan (Midnight Radio at TEDx), Connor McCanlus (SCarrie), and Sheila McKenna (Night of the Living Dead, Animated Holidaze), alongside new recruits Howard Elson and Michael McBurney. Featuring the musical stylings of James Rushin and The “Bah Humbugs,” Yinz’r Scrooged is sprinkled with cheeky commercial spoofs and oddly inventive Foley sound effects, signatures of the Midnight Radio series. Directing this twisted Pittsburgh parody is Sam Turich, a long-time Bricolage collaborator and co-director/creative member of two of Bricolage's previous productions, STRATA and OjO.
Entertaining for the whole family, Yinz’r Scrooged will deliver up holiday cheer, nostalgia, and a cross-generational experience that brings Pittsburgh icons to life.
“In the land of plenty where so few enjoy so much and so many possess so little, will our anti-hero discover the true meaning of the season and save Tiny Tina? Or will the ghostly hauntings foretell a frightening future for Scrooge and his workforce?”
The doors open at 7:30pm for “Happy Half-Hour” with free beer, wine, eggnog, and holiday games, followed by the show at 8:00pm. Tickets are $35 with discounted rates for students and children available. This performance is family friendly.
Foley Workshop – December 17, 2015
Bricolage’s sensory friendly Foley Workshop gives you a chance to experience the Foley (sound effect) equipment hands-on! Participants will learn to recreate environmental soundscapes and try their hand at ghastly chain-rattling and holiday street scenes as they play with all the equipment the Bricolage team uses to bring the story to life through sound. The cast of Yinz’r Scrooged will be on hand to demonstrate and guide participants through the process. Doors open at 6:30PM and the workshop begins at 6:45PM. This workshop is free and open to all patrons. No ticket needed. The performance following the Foley workshop on December 17th will feature audio description.
All Midnight Radio performances feature Braille and large print programs. Audio Description will be available during the December 17th performance of Yinz’r Scrooged. Bricolage’s space at 937 Liberty Avenue is designed for wheelchair access, featuring accessible restrooms and wheelchair seating. Companion seating is also available with advance notice. Bricolage is committed to providing an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all patrons, endeavoring to have transparency with programs that may present specific challenges for participation.
