Fifth Wall

Occupy Your Mind is an invitation to Pittsburgh to get inside the space between its ears. Part teach-in, part salon, with a little pot-luck and a lot of conversation.

The Occupy movement is among other things a provocation to keep opening up spaces to discuss, debate, and deal with the multiple impacts of the massive concentration of wealth, power, and cultural influence in the U.S. and around the world.

Occupy Your Mind offers people from the Pittsburgh area one way to expand these efforts. Part teach-in, part salon, with lots of room for socializing and discussion, it provides a monthly opportunity to engage the urgent issues of the present and to imagine more effective ways of building better futures.

We want to encourage collective learning beyond the limits of the corporate media, generate new ideas for democratic renewal, and stimulate people to develop creative ways of making their ideas real.

We will hold regular evening gatherings on the second Friday of each month. The formats and locations will vary, but each evening will feature offerings from a mix of artists, activists, and intellectuals, some local, others from further afield. There will be plenty of opportunity for building on existing connections, developing new ones, exchanging ideas, and learning together.

We hope these events will encourage people to keep generating more spaces in Pittsburgh and beyond for confronting and challenging the brutal inequalities that suffuse our lives.

The gatherings will be informal: bring your own food, drinks, and mind. Share them with others. Give what you can.

Our efforts are in solidarity with the 99% and in cooperation with the Outreach Working Group of Occupy Pittsburgh.
